Biography
Born in 1919 into a peasant family in the village of Matyshevo (today - Rudnyansky district , Volgograd region ).
He graduated from the Tambov Flight School (1938). During World War II he served as part of the 105th Guards Panevezys Aviation Regiment of the Civil Air Fleet. He participated in the delivery of goods to the Belarusian partisan detachments and Operation Zvyozdochka , during which 154 pupils and 38 employees of Polotsk Orphanage No. 1 were evacuated from the occupation zone behind the front line [1] . [2] . For these feats he was twice awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Battle.
After the war, he worked as an aircraft commander, flight manager at the Minsk-1 airport. Participated in the development of TU-124 . Raised 25 aircraft commanders.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 16, 1974, he was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal " Hammer and Sickle . "
He died in 1991.

In 2015, a memorial plaque in his honor was erected on house number 8 on Korotkevich Street, where Vasily Polzunov lived. [3]
