HMS Coventry (D118) ( eng. Her Majesty's Coventry Ship ), since 2004 Regele Ferdinand (F-221) ( rum. Reggele Ferdinand ) - a British-made frigate of type 22, which has served as part of the Royal Navy of Great Britain since 1988 to 2002 and sold in 2003 to Romania. Since 2004 - the flagship of the Navy of Romania. It was originally supposed to be called “ Boadicea ” ( English Boadicea ), but took the name “Coventry” in honor of the destroyer of the same name Type 42 sunk during the Falkland War . In Romania, received a name in honor of the eponymous series of destroyers and the lead ship of this series.

Pledged by Swan Hunter on March 29, 1984 . Launched on April 8, 1986 , entered the British Navy on October 14, 1988 . From 1990 to 1996, he was the leader of the 1st squadron of frigates . January 17, 2002 expelled from the British Navy.
Romania
January 14, 2003 Coventry was acquired by Romania and renamed Reggel Ferdinand. On August 19, 2004, the ship was finally transferred to Romania and passed the tests. On September 9, 2004, he was accepted into the Romanian Navy and was appointed the flagship of the Romanian fleet. During modernization, weapons were removed from the ship, and its size and displacement also changed. The press did not stop arguing about the purchase price of the ship [1] .
On March 22, 2011, Romanian President Traian Basescu, after meeting with the Supreme Council of National Defense, announced the upcoming dispatch of a ship with 205 sailors and 2 officers to control the arms embargo in the Mediterranean - part of the Allied Defender operation as part of foreign military intervention in Libya [2] . The frigate traveled 17,400 nautical miles, completing 770 tasks [3] .
The frigate Reggele Ferdinand took part in Operation Active Endeavors in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2010 in the Mediterranean Sea, in the Bulgarian exercises Breeze - CertExam in 2007 and 2008, in the Croatian Noble Midas exercises in 2007 and in Italy in 2008 [3] . Since September 13, 2012, a participant in Operation Atalanta carried the commando of the GNFOS division [4] . Since August 2014, he has been a member of the 2nd NATO Marine Station Group operating in the Black Sea as part of the Sea Breeze exercise [5] .
