Prerequisites for adoption
On April 1, 1982, the representative of Argentina to the UN was invited to participate in the discussion (without the right to vote) of a letter from the Permanent Representative of Great Britain to the UN (S / 14942). The letter contained indignation of Great Britain with the introduction of Argentine troops to the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), and requested UN participation in resolving this conflict. A statement was made by the President of the Council, in which Argentina was invited to continue the search for a diplomatic resolution of the conflict and to refrain from using forceful methods of influence.
At UN Security Council meeting No. 2349, April 2, 1982, representatives of the British dominions — Canada , Australia, and New Zealand — were invited to discuss the resolution without a vote.
At UN Security Council meeting No. 2350, April 3, 1982, representatives of Bolivia , Brazil , Paraguay and Peru were invited to discuss the resolution without the right to vote.
Contents of the Resolution
At UN Security Council meeting No. 2350, April 3, 1982, in accordance with a statement by the President of the Security Council dated April 1, 1982, the following proposals were made to the resolution:
- The Council demands an immediate cessation of hostilities.
- The Council demands the immediate withdrawal of all Argentinean troops from the conflict zone.
- The Council calls on the governments of Great Britain and Argentina to diplomatically resolve the conflict and comply with the UN Charter.

The resolution was adopted by 10 votes to one ( Panama ), with four abstentions ( Spain , China , Poland , USSR ).
