Biography
Born on April 14, 1955 in Riga, in a family of intellectuals. Grandfather, Vladimir Shervinsky , was a synodal architect, a member of the Exarchal Administration of the Pskov Orthodox Mission during World War II , and also a member of the Russian student corporation Fraternitas Arctica .
Eugen Upmanis graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of Riga Polytechnic Institute . Since 1980 - Member of the Fraternitas Arctica Corporation. Since 1991 - Head of the Latvian Committee of Fraternal Cemeteries and member of the Council of Monuments of the Riga City Council.
In 2001, Eigen Umanis was awarded the Golden Honorary Badge of the Order of Three Stars - for the restoration of the Freedom Monument .
He died on October 7, 2016, was buried at the Ascension Cemetery in Riga.
Creativity
Eugen Upmanis was involved in restoration projects of the Brotherhood Cemetery in Lesten, a memorial in Liten, a monument to Colonel Oscar Kalpak, Riga Brotherhood Cemetery and the Freedom Monument. He carried out the restoration of the memorial to the Russian wars that died in the First World War, the Riga Intercession and the Great Cemeteries.
From 1981 to 2001 he conducted an inventory of the cemeteries: Tornakalnsky, Bolshoi, Pokrovsky and Martin. Copies of inscriptions from all the monuments were made, material was collected that allows you to identify forgotten memorial objects.
