Biography

The titular margrave Georg Albrecht the Younger is the posthumous child of the margrave Georg Albrecht and his second wife Maria Sophia Solms-Barutskaya. Like his older half-brothers, he studied at Bayreuth gymnasium and received a good education. George was a sickly child, did not get along with his brothers and was distinguished by a dull character, which, according to chroniclers and relatives, was badly affected by the absence of fatherly upbringing. He made a grand tour to France, during which he also suffered and suffered from bouts of fear and mania of persecution.

Georg Albrecht intends to marry the daughter of a local official Johann Peter Lutz, which caused protests in the family. The letters of the Elector of Prussia Frederick III remained in which he expressed outrage at these matrimonial plans with an unequal one. Frederick demanded to put pressure on his father's margrave to end this connection. Dissatisfaction with the bride of Georg Albrecht was also expressed by the margraves Christian Ernst Brandenburg-Bayreitsky and Georg Friedrich Brandenburg-Ansbach . Intrigues around lovers and spying on them from the family ended the conclusion of the head of the couriers in the basement of the palace in Oberkotzau. Georg Albrecht promised to set fire to the palace, and he himself was put under arrest for several weeks. Johann Peter Lutz was transferred to work in Lichtenberg in order to keep his family away from Georg Albrecht. None of the priests of the principality decided to marry lovers, and Georg Albrecht and Regina Magdalena Lutz, against the wishes of the family, were married on April 27, 1699 in the pilgrim Maria Loreto in Bohemia.

The family confronted the wife of George Albrecht with the title “Madame de Cotzau”. Subsequently, the sons and their descendants were given the title of barons von Kotzau for the knightly family Kotzau, which had died in 1661, and who had no family ties with them. By agreement, the descendants of George Albrecht were excluded from the queue of inheritance of the Margrave title and were deprived of the rights to the Brandenburg possessions. The branch of Georg Albrecht, who owned the palace in Oberkotzau and the surrounding villages, survived until the 20th century and only died out in the male line in 1976. Georg Albrecht had three sons, the middle one of whom Friedrich Karl died in infancy. Georg Albrecht himself died at the age of 36 and was buried in the Bayreuth city church.
