Biography
Jaime Pardo Leal was born on March 26, 1941 in Ubak . In 1963 he graduated from the Law Department of the National University of Colombia . As a student, he took an active part in the activities of the Communist Youth Organization of Colombia ( Juco ). After graduating from university, Leal went to work in the judicial system. He served as a judge in one of the district courts of Bogotá.
He was a member of the Communist Party of Colombia , and then in 1985 founded the Patriotic Union party. On February 4, 1986, Jaime Pardo Leal announced his decision to run for president of Colombia. After this statement, a real hunt began for the members of his Patriotic Union party: 471 people were killed in a year. Leal accused the Colombian government of inaction and tacit agreement with the actions of various criminal and paramilitary organizations against members of his party.
Jaime Pardo Leal also knew that he himself would be killed. On October 11, 1987, he went to his farm in La Mesa , near Bogota . When Jaime Pardo Leal got into the car and headed back to Bogota, he was shot dead from the windows of a passing car [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
He was buried in the Central Cemetery of Bogota .
