Biography
Born on September 11, 1929 on the Smilgas farm in the Aknista parish. In 1963 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the University of Latvia , in 1967 - the Higher Party School.
The first publication (under the pseudonym J. Aizporietis) was published in 1948 . From 1950 to 1954 he served in the Soviet army as a wireless telegraph operator. From 1959 to 1971 - correspondent of the newspaper “Cīņa”, from 1972 to 1990 its editor. From 1969 to 1971 - correspondent of the newspaper "Pravda" in the Latvian SSR. From 1977 to 1989 - Chairman of the Union of Journalists of the Latvian SSR.
Honored Worker of Culture of the Latvian SSR (1974).
In 1988, he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Latvian SSR .
Died July 18, 2016, buried in the Tunkel cemetery.
