Biruta Fritsevna Baumane ( Latvian. Biruta Baumane ; June 6, 1922 - January 21, 2017) - Soviet and Latvian artist. She was awarded the Order of Three Stars of the IV degree. Honorary Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (1995). Lifetime scholarship holder of the State Fund for Cultural Capital.

Biography
Born on June 6, 1922 in Kalnamuiza (Jelgava county, now Tērvete ) in a family of teachers. In 1948 she graduated from the Latvian Academy of Arts (under the direction of Professor Janis Liepins [1] ). In 1951 she married the sculptor Karlis Baumanis . Since 1956, participates in exhibitions, exhibited in Riga (1966, 1976, 1985), Liepaja (1967), Moscow (1968, 1984). Since 1959 - member of the Union of Artists of the Latvian SSR, held the position of member of the board In 1999 she received the main prize of the Autumn exhibition. Awarded with medals of the Latvian Union of Artists.
Creativity
Bauman worked in the domestic genre, painted portraits, landscapes, still lifes and nudity. Circus characters, in particular, sad clowns, occupied a large place in Bauman's work.
The first solo exhibition was held in 1956. Bauman's works are kept in many state museums and private collections.
