Biography
Henri Robert was born in 1899 in Grasse in the family of Joseph Robert , a famous French perfumer who improved the extraction process with volatile solvents. He began his career as a perfumer at the old Grass factory Chiris, through which the famous Francois Coty and the author of No. 5 Chanel Ernest Bo passed. Later he worked for Parfums d'Orsay, then Coty, for which he created the fragrance Muguet de Bois. In 1940, Henry Robert moved to New York, where he continued his collaboration with Coty. In the same period, he rejected a partnership offer with Elizabeth Arden due to financial disagreements. From 1954 to 1978, he became the chief perfumer at Chanel, replacing the retired Ernest Bo.
