History
The history of St. Nicholas parish dates back to the middle of the 19th century, when a wooden church was built in the village of Oblivskaya in the Oblivsky district of the Rostov region. At one time, a description of the temple was compiled by his priest Stratonik Yakovlev and Cossack Pavel Telegin. The three-domed church with a bell tower was a wooden building. The church was covered with green iron paint, and gilded crosses were erected on the gilded domes.
Since 1869, a school for 33 people worked at the church, a parish school for 70 students, metric books were kept.
By the beginning of the 20th century, there were already about 500 yards and about 5,000 Cossacks in the Oblivsky farm. The parish required the construction of a new church. In 1915, a stone church was built, the area of which was 228 m². The church was built at the expense of local merchants and parishioners. The new temple was built of red brick, murals were made on the walls. The cost of building the temple amounted to 50,000 rubles. There was a library at the temple, in which there were about 145 volumes of books.
During the years of Soviet power, the temple was closed twice, looted and partially destroyed. During the Great Patriotic War, in 1942, the temple was opened for parishioners. In 1960, the building housed a sports hall, a furniture warehouse.
In 1989, at the request of residents, by a decision of the Council for Religious Affairs of May 24, 1989, the church was transferred for use by the Russian Orthodox Church for free and unlimited use. The temple has an adjacent land plot of 2600 m². By the decision of the Oblivsky district executive committee of June 7, 1989, he was also transferred to the use of the parish.
Currently, regular worship services are held in the temple. Since 2001, a Sunday school has been operating at the church. The temple is an architectural monument of the beginning of the XX century and is included in the register of monuments of local importance.
