Construction
Baddeck was ordered on January 22, 1940, as part of the construction of the Flower corvettes for 1939 and 1940. Laid on August 14, 1940 by Davie Shipbuilding and Repairing Co. Ltd. in Losone, Quebec. It was launched on November 20, 1940 and was accepted into the KVMS of Canada on May 18, 1941 in Quebec [2] . Several times for his service he went back to the ports due to engine problems. For the whole of 1941, the engine failed three times, after which during the first half of 1942 the corvette was under repair [3] .
Service
In June 1941, Baddeck was ordered to escort the Lady Rodney ( SS Lady Rodney ) merchant ship from Quebec to Halifax , but was forced to return to the port due to engine problems [4] . In September 1941, he accompanied the same ship from Halifax to Jamaica, all the way through with engine malfunctions [4] . After repairs went to Newfoundland to perform the duties of an escort ship [3] .
On October 5, 1941, the ship was accompanied by an SC-48 convoy on the route Sydney (Nova Scotia) - Iceland. Nine ships of the convoy were lost after the attack of German submarines off the coast of Greenland [4] [5] . On October 17, 1941, the crew of the Baddeka rescued two people from the Norwegian Barfonna cargo ship torpedoed by U-432 [2] . From mid-December 1941, the corvette was being repaired in the Icelandic Hvalfjord and in June 1942 returned to service, joining the Western Local Guard Forces (WLEF). In November 1942, he arrived in Londonderry , from where he left to escort the Mediterranean convoys for 4 months [4] .
In April 1943, Baddeck joined the C4 convoy, making two crossings across the Atlantic with it, and then returned to Western local escort forces in mid-July, joining the W-2 convoy. In August 1943, he stood for repairs in Liverpool (Nova Scotia), during which the tank was expanded [3] [4] . He remained in the WLEF until March 1944 [3] , after which he entered the British Navy convoy group EG-9, based in Londonderry . In April 1944, transferred to Portsmouth under the wing of the Western command, participated in Operation Neptune (the sea phase of Operation Overlord [3] [6] [7] . On June 13, 1944, Baddeck repelled the attack of torpedo boats [4] . In September 1944, he passed under the Norsky command in Sheerness, on May 24, 1945 he was sent home after the end of the war [3] .
July 4, 1945 in Quebec, Baddeck was excluded from the Canadian Navy and sold for civil service, becoming the Eftania dry cargo ship with a displacement of 771 tons [8] . In 1948, it was renamed “Yusuf Z. Alireza” [2] [8] , in 1954 - in “Al-Mansur”, in 1955 - in “Radva” [8] . In 1965, finally renamed the "Evie", sailed under the Greek flag [9] . March 11, 1966 ran aground in the Red Sea , 4 nautical miles from the Saudi city of Jeddah [4] [8] . In the same year, scrapped [8] .
