Ekrem Alidjan (1916, Adapazari - June 18, 2000, Istanbul ) is a Turkish politician.

Biography
Ekrem Alidjan was born in 1916 in Adapazar in the family of Yusuf-effendi and Emine-hanym. Ekrem had two older brothers, Fuat and Ismail Hakky. After graduating from school, Ekrem Alidjan entered the Mekteb-i Mukliye educational institution located in Istanbul (in 1936 this educational institution was reorganized into the Political Science Department of Ankara University). After graduation, Alidjan was sent by the Ministry of Finance to study at the London School of Economics , but after a year and a half he was forced to return to Turkey because of the outbreak of World War II [1] [2] .
After returning from Britain, Ekrem Alidjan began working in the Ministry of Finance. In 1940-41 he served in the army in the artillery troops, then resumed work in the ministry. After the war ended, the Treasury Department wanted Alidjan to continue his studies in London, but his father was against it. In 1946, Ekrem Alidjan was again drafted into the army for a short time [1] [2] .
Soon after the second call, Alidjan left the ministry and returned to Adapazar. There, together with three relatives, he organized a company selling agricultural products, but was not successful [1] .
At the age of 34, Ekrem Alidjan joined the Democratic Party, in 1950 he was elected a member of the Great National Assembly from silt Kocaeli [1] [2] . In 1954 he was re-elected. In 1955, after the unrest in Istanbul, a conflict broke out within the Democratic Party, as a result of which 9 party members were expelled from it, another 10 left on their own. Together, on December 20, 1955, they founded the Freedom Party [1] [2] [3] . In 1957, the Freedom Party failed in the elections, only 4 people passed from it to the parliament. November 24, 1958 the party was dissolved [1] . Three days after the coup d'etat of 1960, Ekrem Alidjan received the post of Minister of Finance [4] [5] , but on December 27 of the same year he resigned due to disagreement with the financial policies of the military [1] [2] .
On February 13, 1961, Alidjan created the party of the new Turkey [4] [6] . In the 1961 parliamentary elections, the party received 13.73% of the vote, thus taking 65 out of 450 seats in parliament. In the Senate election , the new Turkey party received 13.0% of the vote, which means 27 out of 150 seats [7] . According to the results of the parliamentary elections, Alidjan himself won a seat in the Grand National Assembly [1] [2] . Later Ekrem Alidjan was appointed deputy prime minister in the coalition government of Turkey, held this post from June 25, 1962 to December 25, 1963 [1] [2] [4] . In 1965, Alidjan was again elected as a deputy [2] , his party won 19 out of 450 seats in parliament. On October 17, 1966, Ekrem Alidjan resigned as party chairman, and in 1969 resigned from political activity [1] [4] .
Personal life
May 19, 1947 married Nadzhy Guler. The couple had three children, two daughters, Emine Nilufer (born 1948) and Janan (born 1951), as well as son Yusuf (born 1958) [1] .
The last years of life
In 1970-80, Ekrem Alidjan served on the board of one of the largest private banks, Yapı ve Kredi Bankası [1] [2] .
He died on June 18, 2000 in his house in the Yenikoy district of Istanbul. After a religious ceremony in the Teshvik mosque, Ekrem Alidzhan’s body was buried in a family cemetery in Adapazar. He left a wife and three children [1] [2] [4] [6] .
