Selim Rauf Sarper ( tour. Selim Rauf Sarper ; June 14, 1899 , Istanbul - October 11, 1968 , Ankara ) is a Turkish diplomat and politician.

Biography
Selim Sarper was born on June 14, 1899 in Istanbul. He led his youth in Germany, in 1918 he graduated from school there. He studied law at the University of Berlin [1] [2] .
After returning to Turkey, he studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ankara. From 1923 he taught French at a school in Adana , then worked at an independent tribunal. In 1927, he became an interpreter at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs [1] [2] .
In 1928, Selim Sarper was appointed vice-consul in Odessa (USSR). In 1929 he was transferred to the post of third secretary in the Turkish Embassy in Moscow. Two years later he was promoted to second secretary. Then he served at the consulates in Komotini (Greece), Odessa (USSR) and Berlin (Germany) [2] .
In 1944, Selim Sarper was appointed Ambassador of Turkey to the USSR [2] . He led negotiations with the Soviet government regarding the territorial claims of the USSR to Turkey [1] .
In 1946–1947, Sarper served as Ambassador of Turkey to Italy, in 1947–57, the position of Permanent Representative of Turkey to the UN, and in 1957–60 Selim Sarper served as Permanent Representative of Turkey to NATO [1] .
On May 28, 1960, the day after the coup d'état , Selim Sarper and the UN ambassador to Turkey Fletcher Warren paid a visit to the leader of the conspirators, Jemal Gürsel . On the same day, Sarper was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs [1] , he held this post until February 16, 1962. Later, Selim Sarper joined the Republican People's Party , in 1961 he was elected a member of the Grand National Assembly from her, and was re-elected in 1965 [1] .
On May 14, 1968, Selim Sarper underwent a second pulmonary operation [3] . On October 11, 1968, he died in Ankara, his body was transported to Istanbul [4] . Selim Sarper has a wife and two daughters [1] [5] .
