Born in the village of Konstantinovka, Poltava province (now the village of Sakhnovschinsky district of Kharkov region ). In 1920 he graduated from the historical and philological faculty of Kiev University . He worked as a teacher of ethnic studies, the Ukrainian language and literature at the Pereyaslavl Pedagogical College, from 1922 - in technical schools and labor schools in Kiev. At the same time, he conducted scientific research in the field of literature, folklore, and ethnography, and sent his scientific results to the Ethnographic Commission at the Higher School of Economics . Since the end of 1924 he worked as head of the ethnographic department of the Ekaterinoslav Museum of Local Lore . Under the influence of D. Yavornytsky, in October 1925 he entered the graduate school of the Ekaterinoslav Scientific Research Department of Ukrainian Studies , and since January 1926 he continued his studies at the graduate school of the Department of Linguistics and Literature at the Kiev Institute of Public Education. He combined his studies with work in the ethnographic commission at the Higher School of Autonomy, of which he has been a member since 1924: he studied the theoretical problems of folklore, was one of the enthusiasts of popularizing local history among the broad rural masses, and edited the Ethnographic Newsletter of the All-Ukrainian Autonomous Institution. Since the beginning of the 1930s, he was the head of the ethnographic commission, a member of the Bureau of the Historical Cycle of the AUAS, a senior researcher of the AUAN. In 1934, he was dismissed from work on falsified accusations of violating personnel policies, slowing down the restructuring of the historical institutions of the SUA and popularizing enemy products. On June 20, 1937 he was arrested on charges of active work in the Ukrainian nationalist organization of scientists of the SUA. November 22, 1937 executed in Kiev.
