Apprentice P. Peters in Amsterdam and G. Quanier in Antwerp . He worked mainly in Haarlem, where, together with Karl van Mander , he founded the Academy of Painting, from which several skilled artists emerged. He painted paintings of various contents - mythical , allegorical , historical, portraits and flowers. He especially liked to depict naked human figures, which he placed in his compositions by the way and inappropriately, giving rather artificial shades to the bodies of men and women. The composition in his paintings is mannered and restless; the color, quite mottled at the beginning, towards the end of its activity (as, for example, in “Mercy”, 1629 , in the Schwerin Gallery) became more natural and harmonious. Cornelissen's works are found in Amsterdam, The Hague, Dresden, Schwerin and other galleries, as well as in many private collections. There are several in the Hermitage (“Baptism”, “Bacchus and Satyr” and others) [1] and in the Pushkin Museum (“Cimon and Iphigenia”, “Allegory of the Faith”, “Baptism”) [2] .
