Biography

He was born in a family of Kashmir Muslims in Delhi , then moved with his parents to Gwalior , where he spent his school years. His father, Dua Dubaivi, was also a poet who wrote in Urdu. After the partition of India, many members of his family emigrated to Pakistan , but he remained in India [1] [2] [3] .

He studied English literature at a college in Gwalior. He began to write his own poems, saddened by the death of his fellow student. He heard in the temple, the hymn of Surdas about Radha 's longing for Krishna , inspired him to express his feelings through poetry [3] . He wrote in almost every format of poetry, including ghazals , , , and drew inspiration from the works of TS Eliot , Gogol , Chekhov and Takasaki [4] .

He graduated from college in 1957 [5] and moved to Bombay in search of work. His days as a novice writer in Bombay, he described the book Diwaron ke Bahar ( Rus. Outside the walls ) [1] .

In the 1980s, he began writing song tests for films. Assessing his poems, director invited him to “set the tone” for his film (1983) after the previously hired poet died. Fazli composed two songs for the film “Tera Hijr Mera Naseeb Hain” and “Hariyala Banna Aaya Re”. And although the production of the picture was delayed, he received proposals from other filmmakers. He was the author of lyrics for Biwi O Biwi Raj Kapoor and Nakhuda Yash Chopra, released in 1981 Biwi O Biwi . Written for the latter, the song "Tumhari Palko Ki Chilmano Me Ye Kya Chhupa Hai" became a hit, while the film itself failed at the box office. He also composed the song "Joh Vaada Khudse Kiya" for Chopra Affair, but it was not included in the final version of the film [3] . In the 1990s, critics praise and success were received by his texts “Jeevan Kya Hai” from the film Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin (1996) and “Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya” from (1999) [6] . Thanks to the first of them, he was nominated for the Filmfare Awards . But the massive popularity of the lyrics to the film Sur - The Melody of Life (2002) , two of which, “Aa Bhi Jaa” and “Kabhi Shaam Dhale”, became smash hits [3] .

Nida Fazli was awarded the Sangit Natak Academy Award for a collection of Urdu poems by Khoya Hua Sa Sa Kuchh in 1998 [7] . And in 2013 he was awarded the fourth highest civilian award of India - the Order of Padma Sri [8] [9] .
