Early career

Salom began to compete at the age of eight, becoming the winner of the Balearic Islands Supermoto Championship [3] . In 2005, he moved to the 125 cm³ class and won two consecutive victories in the Balearic Islands Championship before moving on to the Spanish Motorcycle Racing Championship in 2007.

In his first full season in the national championship, Salom took seventh place with one podium in Catalunya Montmelo . In the he finished fourth with a victory in Assen and second in Jerez . The next season, Salom began with 4 victories in 5 stages and outstripped JD Beach by 13 points, but missed him by the end of the season and took second place with a 4-point backlash due to gatherings in Sachsenring and Brno [4] . Louis Salom at Silverstone . 2010 year

Salom made his debut at the Grand Prix of Spain at the Moto Grand Prix of Spain , receiving a wild card [5] , then held another wild card race , after which he began to perform on a regular basis in the WRB team, replacing . In 12 races for Aprilia, Salom scored 21 points, the best result was 6th place in Donington .

Salom started the next season with Lambretta [6] , but after two stages, having won just one point, he moved to Stipa-Molenaar Racing, where he continued his performance until the end of the season [7] , having won 71 more points, finishing 9 in the top ten and taking the 12th place at the end of the season.

Salom won his first victory in 2012 in Indianapolis ahead of and in the final round [8] . He won the next victory in Aragon . At the end of the season, Salom took second place, losing only to Cortese.

The following year , as part of the Red Bull KTM, Ajo Salom led most of the season. However, he got into an accident at Motegi and got off, giving and Maverick Vinales the opportunity to impose a fight [9] . In the final race of the season in Valencia, Salom again had an accident and finally dropped out of the fight to win the championship, finishing 14th in the race and 3rd in the season. The title went to Vinales [10] [11] .

Moto2

Salom signed a contract with the Pons Racing team for 2014-2015. His partner was a former rival in the fight for the champion title Vinales [12] . In the first two races of the season, Salom scored 2 points. And at the Moto Grand Prix of Catalonia, after falling from a motorcycle, almost knocked down and both of them lost their distance [13] . Before the start of the 2016 season, Salom joined the SAG Racing Team and became a partner of . In the debut race of the season, the Qatar Moto Grand Prix Salom won his first podium with the new team, finishing second.

Death

The fatal incident occurred on the 20th minute of free practice before the Moto Grand Prix of Catalonia . In the 12th turn, Salom lost control, in a straight line crossed the highway and flew into an asphalt trap. Although he was able to separate from the motorcycle, but this did not save him: Salom crashed into a motorcycle that had already encountered an airfence inflatable barrier before [14] . The doctors who arrived at the scene of the accident noted a cardiac arrest and began resuscitation. It was necessary to refuse to evacuate to the hospital with a helicopter, and attempts to revive Salom continued in the reanimobile on the way to the hospital, where a direct heart massage was performed . However, all measures were unsuccessful and death was ascertained 58 minutes after the accident [15] .

According to the results of the investigation conducted by the team, the accident was caused by accidental pressing of the brake handle by Salom when the motorcycle bounced on a bump. This led to folding the front fork and tipping the motorcycle [16] . However, the investigation conducted by FIM and MotoGP came to different conclusions: Salom, presumably looking back, deviated from the trajectory and, trying to correct the situation, pressed the brake lever too hard and lost control when he hit the curb [17] .

At the request of Salom's relatives, the competition was continued [18] . The remaining races at the Moto Grand Prix of Catalonia were already carried out on the configuration of the track, previously used for Formula 1 racing [19] .

At the end of the season, number 39, under which Salom performed, was withdrawn from circulation in Moto2 [20] .
