Kimchi museum

Gimchi Museum (now the “ Gimchikan Museum ”) is a museum in Seoul dedicated to the national Korean dish - kimchi , its history, varieties and significance for Korean culture and cuisine .

Content

History

  • 1986 - foundation of the museum
  • 1987 - The museum goes under the control of Pulmuone , a leading food producer in Korea.
  • 1988 - for the period of the Olympic Games in Seoul, the exposition was moved to the building of the Korea World Trade Center Complex . The museum also opened courses on cooking kimchi: "University of kimchi" for adults and "School of kimchi" for children
  • 2000 - on the eve of the third Asia-Europe summit in Seoul, the museum was renovated, the museum area was increased
  • 2006 - The American Health magazine included kimchi on the list of the five healthiest foods in the world. The BBC , CNN and NHK global television networks have released reports on the museum, thereby contributing to its popularity.
  • 2013 - the collective culture of Korea for the preparation of kimchi is included in the List of masterpieces of the oral and intangible cultural heritage of mankind
  • 2015 - CNN Corporation included the museum in the list of 11 largest food museums in the world
  • 2015 - rebranded the museum. New name “Museum Kimchikan”

Exposition

The museum exposition consists of several permanent exhibitions:

  • "Kimchi travels the world" - talks about the path of kimchi to world recognition
  • “Kimchi is a source of creative inspiration” - this section presents the work of the artist Kim Yong Hong
  • “The tradition of cooking and storing kimchi” - reveals the secrets of kimchi ingredients, demonstrates the cooking process in great detail
  • “Science - about the beneficial effects of kimchi” - demonstrates the effect of kimchi on the digestion process

The museum has a kimchi shop, master classes and educational programs for tourists. The museum library includes a variety of literature, reference books, scientific papers on the subject of kimchi.
