Biography
Filip’s father, the Bulgarian discus thrower Emil Milanov , moved from Sofia to Belgian Bruges in 1989, where his son was born [1] .
As a child, Milanov Jr. was engaged in tennis, skateboarding and karate, but in the end he made the choice in favor of athletics. His coach was his father, with whom they began to work on the technique of discus throwing [2] .
The first Belgian championship was won back in 2011, at the age of 20, and the next year repeated this success. He took fifth place in the European Youth Championship in 2013 with a score of 59.06 m.
During 2014, he improved his personal record by 4 meters, from 61.81 meters to 66.02 meters, but at the European Championships he was far from the best form and could not overcome the qualification.
Continued to progress in the next season. First he won the Universiade gold in Korean Gwangju with a score of 64.15 m, and then took second place at the World Championships , updating his Belgian record in the final - 66.90 m.
At the European Championships 2016, he won a silver medal.
He was among the finalists at the 2016 Olympics , but could not compete for the podium, taking ninth place.
