History
Its founders were the inhabitants of the Dragovic monastery from Dalmatia : hegumen Paisiy, monks Eustathius, Seraphim, Gerasim and Dionysius. Hegumen Paisiy in the Grabovatsky Chronicle indicates that the reason for the resettlement was the famine in Dalmatia. In 1585, the monks found the ruins of the destroyed XIV century Benedictine Catholic monastery. With the permission of the Turkish authorities , in 1587 the first wooden temple was built. [one]
On January 18, 1690, the abbot of the monastery Evfimiy (Negomirovich) made an attempt to transfer to the union, but this was prevented by the Pecher Patriarch Arseny III Chernoyevich , who in the same year led the great resettlement of the Serbs . Hegumen Euthymius remained in Orthodoxy and ruled the monastery until 1700. From June 28, 1694 until 1700, the monastery was the department of the Metropolitan of Budim Euthymius (Popovich) . [2]
After the Second World War, the monastery was nationalized. As of 1946, 3 monks lived in the monastery, in 1956 there was only one abbot Alexy (Babich). In 1969, a nursing home was set up in the monastery buildings. In 1974, hegumen Alexy died, and the church became inoperative.
In 1994, the monastery was returned to the Serbian Orthodox Church. Bishop Daniel (Krstic) decided to revive monastic life and sent two nuns to the monastery - Christina and Mary [3] . In 2010, another inhabitant appeared in Hrabovac - Hieromonk Panteleimon, who by decree of Bishop Lucian (Pantelich) was appointed rector of the monastery. In 2016, Abbot Panteleimon died and was buried near the monastery church.
