Kurkat ( drill. Khurkhat ) is a village in the Alar district of the Ust-Orda Buryat district of the Irkutsk region . Included in the municipality "Alar" .

Geography

The village is located 57 km along the highway and about 30 km in a straight line in a south-westerly direction from the regional center, at an altitude of 476–478 m above sea level.

Consists of 3 streets: Youth, Central and School.

Name Origin

The name of the settlement comes from the name of the Buryat family of Khurkhud , ethnically close to the Soyots - foolish Turks living in the Oka district of Buryatia . According to the research of some scholars, earlier these peoples belonged to the Samoyed ethnic group. However, there is an assumption that the Hurkhud clan is Buryat in origin, since the name Hurhud (huzu - sagan-hurohud), who is the son of Toglok, is mentioned in the Bulagatian pedigree ^[2] .
