History
The museum was founded in 1999 thanks to the enthusiasm of Lawrence Diggs. Having once tasted balsamic vinegar , Lawrence Diggs made his study the meaning of his life. Traveling around the world, he studied the historical, economic and social aspects of the popularity of vinegar [1] . In 1989, Diggs moved to the city of Roslyn, where, with the assistance of the local non-profit organization for business development ( CARE ), he opened his own museum. The museum is located in a one-story brick building built in 1936, which previously housed the city's historic hall. The building is included in the US National Register of Historic Places .
Exposition
The basis of the exposition is several hundred bottles of vinegar (350 varieties) from around the world [2] . In addition, visitors can see a variety of ceramic and glass containers made from vinegar, documents, photographs and works of art related to vinegar. A tour of the museum hall allows you to find out the history of the appearance of vinegar, the technology of its preparation, various options for using vinegar not only in cooking, but also in everyday life. The museum has a souvenir shop selling vinegar, clothes and works of art.
Every year in June the museum hosts the annual “Vinegar Festival”, the program of which includes many events [3] :
- solemn parade
- beauty contest "Queen of Vinegar"
- cooking classes
- vinegar tasting
- concert and other recreational activities
