History

The museum was founded in 2008 [1] by Belgian entrepreneur Eddy Van Belle , who had previously opened two museums in Bruges: Choco-Story and Lumina Domestica [2] . Encouraged by the popularity of his museums, Van Belle decided to open a museum dedicated to french fries, especially since there are no such museums in the world [2] .

The museum is located in a building of Gothic architecture , built in 1399. At various times, the building was used as the residence of the Ambassador of Genoa , the guild of weavers, a cafe, a cinema, a bank and an exhibition hall [3] .

Exposition

The museum exposition is divided into two parts. The first section talks about more than ten thousand years of potato history. Here visitors can learn about the development of potato as an agricultural crop and its distribution throughout Europe. The second part of the exposition is dedicated directly to french fries - a dish popular all over the world. The museum's collection contains documents, potatoes of various varieties, ceramic dishes, photographs related to the history of french fries. Of particular interest are machines for growing, harvesting, sorting potatoes. The museum features fine and applied art from the Belgian bistro and a collection of retro deep fat fryers .
