Biography
In 1998, Adonis “Donnie” Johnson ended up in a detention center for juvenile offenders, where he fought with other children after a short stay. As a result, it is placed in a separate chamber. Later, Mary Ann Creed (Felicia Rashad), widow of Apollo Creed, met with Adonis and takes him to her, informing him that he is the son of Apollo Creed (born of an extramarital affair with a housekeeper). Currently, Adonis is a wealthy young college graduate who works for a securities firm. However, on weekends, he makes his way to Tijuana to participate in illegal boxing matches, where he defeats many rivals, bringing his winning score to 15 wins. Soon, Adonis quit to fulfill his dream and become a boxer. Mary Ann protests violently, recalling how her husband was killed in the ring 30 years ago in a duel with Drago (Rocky IV) and how he suffered after each fight before. He finds it hard to get to know someone in Los Angeles to train him because of his father’s death in the ring, especially after he loses sparring to light heavyweight Danny “stuntman” Wheeler (Andre Ward). Undaunted, Adonis leaves for Philadelphia, hoping to find his father’s former rival and best friend, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone).
Once in Philadelphia, Adonis meets Rocky and tries to get the senior boxer to become his coach. Having abandoned boxing, and believing that Apollo did not want his son to become a fighter, Rocky refuses. However, Adonis' perseverance eventually defeats Rocky again. He forms a strong bond with Rocky and considers him an uncle, even going as far as calling him "uncle" and introducing his people as such. Meanwhile, Adonis is forming a relationship with his lower neighbor, Bianca (Tessa Thompson), a songwriter with progressive hearing loss. Donny gets a match with Leo “Leo” Sporino (Gabriel Rosado), the son of a coach who initially wanted Rocky with his son’s coach. He is training with Rocky to prepare for the fight. Rocky is hosted by Donnie - now known as “Hollywood Donnie” —on Front Street in the gym to prepare with the help of several of Rocky's longtime friends, where Adonis noticeably improves his speed, strength, stamina and defense. Before the fight, Sporino's father learns that Adonis is the son of Apollo Creed. After Adonis wins the 2nd round by TKO, Sporino's father warns the media about Adonis’s parenthood. Meanwhile, world-class Light Heavyweight Champion “Handsome” Ricky Conlan (Tony Bellew) is due to go to jail on charges of a gun that will effectively end his career, gearing up for his last fight against Danny “Stunt” Wheeler. After Conlan breaks Jawler’s jaw on the weigh-in for the title fight, Conlan manager of the Tommy celebration (Graham McTawish) decides that the best way to end his career would be against Apollo Creed’s son. Conlan is opposed, but reluctantly agrees. The feast meets Rocky and Adonis, demanding that he use the name of faith if he wants a light heavyweight fight. Adonis really wants, his desire is to create his own heritage. He agrees only after Bianca persuades him to use the name Apollo.
