Story
The trial of the Doctor continues, and in his defense, he demonstrates on the screen events from his future, an adventure on the space ship Hyperion III.
On Hyperion III, an old man named Kimber takes the mineralogist Grenville as investigator Hallett. Three scientists, Professor Laski, Bruchner and Doland are concerned, considering that Granville can be an investigator.
Meanwhile, the mysterious figure stuns Edwards, the communications officer, and sends a distress signal to the TARDIS, which lands on board. The doctor and his new partner, Mel, are caught and lead to Commodore Travers, a friend of the Doctor who asks for an investigation.
Officer Raj leads Mel to the gym, where she, wearing headphones, hears the demand to bring the Doctor to cabin №6. In the cargo hold, Laski, Doland and Bruchner point out that the large capsules are stable, but the seeds of demeter are missing. In the cabin the Doctor and Mel find the seeds and one shoe.
Raj informs Travers that someone was thrown into the garbage disposal, and all that was found was a pair of shoes found by the Doctor. He belonged to Granville, but the Doctor did not recognize his name. Mel goes to the center of hydroponics, along with Edwards, who soon beats him to death.
Doland and Bruchner, learning that the capsules are empty, begin to ask Mel about her actions in the center of hydroponics. Raj finds out that the bodies of Edwards and the two guards who arrived at the place of his death are gone.
Travers decides to change the course of the ship in order to soon arrive on Earth. The three Mogharians worry that this will bring them closer to the black hole of Tartarus, but the Commodore assures that they follow safe routes. Suddenly, one of them falls unconscious, and the Doctor, despite warnings that oxygen is poisonous for the Mogharians, takes off his mask, under which Grenville finds himself, and in it the Doctor recognizes Hallett, the investigator for cover, who fabricated his death.
The doctor and Mel notice how the professor leaves the protected room, and, having penetrated there, they find a half-half-growth tied to the table. She tries to pounce on Lasky, but she, along with Bruchner and Doland, puts her to sleep. It turns out this mutant - their assistant, Ruth Baxter, infected with pollen during the experiment, and she is being taken to Earth in the hope of stopping the mutation process. Soon, Mel, who had overheard the conversation of creatures who were going to kill all the “animals” on the ship, stunned and thrown into the garbage can, but the Doctor managed to get her out of there.
It turns out that when Edwards was electrocuted, a plant-like Vervoid came out of the capsules. Bruchner, having stunned Laski and the guard, forces Travers and the pilot to leave the bridge and directs the ship into a black hole.
Vervoids fill the bridge with marsh gas, killing Bruchner, and Raj asks the Mogarians, breathing in a poisonous atmosphere, to steer the ship from the black hole. When the danger is over, he, along with them, seizes the ship, explaining that by a “more comfortable retirement”: the journey of Mogar — the Earth is his last, after which he is being retired. In the meantime, someone is killing Mogarians. The doctor and Mel, finding their corpses, take away their masks to prove to Raju that the rebellion is over. Doland takes away a weapon from him, he escapes and dies at the hands of the Vervoids. Doland is guilty of the killings, which Vervoids also soon kill.
Laski tries to kill the Vervoids with a herbicide, but dies, and the Doctor and Mel find a warehouse of bodies in the ventilation. The doctor comes up with the idea of using vionesia, a metal that was transported by the Mogarians, and which would speed up the life-balance of the Vervoids. Travers lured them into an ambush, where the Doctor and Mel sprayed metal on the Vervoids, who soon die. The Doctor and Mel help the survivors and depart for the TARDIS.
In the courtroom, the Inquisitor asks the Doctor whether one of the Vervoid has survived, and he says no; if at least one Vervoid leaf survived and hit the Earth, new Vervoids would grow. Based on this, Valeyard accuses the Doctor of genocide.

Interesting Facts
- In this series, for the first time appears the companion of Dr. Melanie Bush performed by Bonnie Langford. It is noteworthy that, apart from Susan Forman , she was the only one who did not have a series of acquaintances and the first adventure with the Doctor (this series takes place in the future). This series (“Wrong Doctors”) was scheduled for release in season 24 of the series, but, due to Colin Baker's dismissal, was never withdrawn, and later released in an audio production format. Later, alternative versions of their first meeting were released: in the novel “An Unusual Affair” and (in an alternative universe) in the audio production “He Jokes Over Scars”.
- Despite the references to the fact that the Doctor has already met with Commodore Travers, this meeting was not described in any of the Doctor’s adventures described. However, in the novel “ Instruments of Darkness ” it was mentioned that it occurred during the journeys of the Doctor with Evelyn Smythe (one of the Sixth and Seventh Doctor’s companions in the novels and audio performances).
