Christopher Andrew "Chris" Koons ( born Christopher Andrew "Chris" Coons ; born September 9, 1963 ) is an American politician, member of the Democratic Party , and a US senator from Delaware .

Biography
In 1985, he received a bachelor 's degree in art from Amherst College , in 1992 he graduated from Yale Law School and received a Doctorate of Justice ( JD ), as well as a with a Master of Arts in Religion ( MAR ) [2] .
In 1980, he volunteered in the presidential campaign of Ronald Reagan , and after his first year at Amherst College, he worked in the office of the US Senator from Delaware . However, having spent the third year ( Junior Year ) at the University of Nairobi ( Kenya ), he radically changed his political convictions, moving from the Republican Party to the Democratic [3] .
After college, he worked at the Washington Investor Responsibility Center, provided assistance to the unemployed, then moved to South Africa, where he collaborated on the [4] .
Returning to the United States, he graduated from the University and worked in the office of Judge , as well as legal adviser to his stepfather , a manufacturer of gortex fabric. He was a member of the board of trustees of the “I have a Dream” charity foundation, which helps children from poor families to get an education [5] .
In 2001-2005, he chaired the New Castle County Council; in 2005-2010, he headed the executive branch in the same district.
In 2010, he put forward his candidacy for the early senator from Delaware, who was then occupied by his fellow party member Ted Kaufman (he was appointed to this post in 2008 due to the election of its then-holder Joe Biden as US Vice President ). supporter of the republican “ tea party movement, ” won the , receiving the support of 56.6% of voters, and took office on November 15, 2010 [6] [7] .

Personal life
In 1996, he married Annie Lingenfelter (Annie Lingenfelter), the spouses have three children. The family lives in Wilmington .
On January 12, 2015, an episode that took place during the swearing-in procedure of the new US Congress attracted the attention of the press when Vice President Joe Biden first whispered something in the ear of Koons's embarrassed 13-year-old daughter Margaret, and then tried to kiss her on head, but she dodged. Subsequently, the girl herself and her father stated that Biden had not done anything wrong, and Koons also noted that the vice president has known his children all their lives [9] .
