History

The first Catholic temple was built in Kroshina in 1442. In 1818 a new wooden church was built in the town [2] .

In the 1920s, when Kroshin was a part of interwar Poland , a modern stone building of the Church of God’s Body was built. In Soviet times, the church was a museum of the Belarusian poet Pavlyuk Bagrim , who was born in 1813 in Kroshin and was buried in the cemetery behind the church [3] .

Architecture

The Church of God’s Body is a rectangular building with a gable roof with an adjoining lower triangular apse . In the center of the roof is a tetrahedral turret with a spire. The main facade has a two-tier composition, enlarged decor elements - corner pinnacles , powerful vanes, rectangular niches, cornice, etc. The entrance is made in the form of a large semicircular arch. In the center of the gable on the second tier of the facade a Latin cross is embossed. The side facades are rhythmically dissected by rectangular windows [1] .

Bagrima Chandelier

In the interior, the triangular apse is separated from the vaulted nave by an arched opening and illuminated by a semicircular lucarny . The main hall of the temple is covered with a cylindrical vault, under which is hung a chandelier by Pavlyuk Bagrim with ornamental forging. The corona-like finish of the chandelier is decorated with an image of flowers and larks. This chandelier was made by the master in 1891 for the owner of the estate of Peter Svyatopolk-Zavadsky and originally hung in his house, and after the construction of the stone church was transferred by the heirs to the church [4] .
