Biography

Khudadad Khan was born around 1763 in a Dunbul family. His father Najaf-kuli came from the Hajibeylu clan of the Turkic tribe Dunbuli.

Hudadad Khan took charge of the Tabriz Khanate in 1784 after the death of his father, Najaf Kuli Khan. Having begun rule, he decided to strengthen the power of the Tabriz khanate, which was shaken as a result of the relative dependence of the khanate on the Urmian khanate. This dependence was especially evident during the frequent attacks of neighbors on the territory of the Tabriz Khanate, whose rulers, due to the weakness of the country, could not defeat the enemy and resorted to the help of a stronger close neighbor - the Khoy Khanate .

First of all, he eliminated all his relatives, who could somehow interfere with him in public affairs. His younger brothers were forced to seek refuge outside the khanate.

At the beginning of 1785, the troops of the Sarab Khanate surrounded the Tabriz fortress. In that year, the embassy of the Tabriz Khanate appealed to the Urmian Khan for patronage. Urmian troops sent to help Khudadad Khan remained here until 1786. Having received news of this, Ahmed Khan Dunbuli with his army comes to the aid of his cousins.

In mid- 1786, the Sarabsky khan Sadykh Khan Shegagi besieged the Tabriz fortress. Hudadad Khan again asked Urmia for help. Khudadad Khan sent a delegation to the Urmian Khanate , headed by Aga Ali Muhammed Tajirbashi, asking for help. Muhammad Kuli Khan Afshar, and together with him opposed Sadikh Khan, who took Tabriz. In the battle that took place in the area of Aji-tea, Sadikh-khan Shegagi was defeated. Sadykh Khan with the remnants of the army fled to Sarab.

In 1788, Khudadad Khan got involved in a difficult war with the Sarabians in the territory of modern East Azerbaijan , and could not win a decisive victory. Several hundred were captured with him and the khan's brothers went over to the side of the enemy. Ultimately, these failures contributed to his defeat and death in June 1788. After his death, his son Najaf Quli Khan ascended the Tabriz throne.
