Atto Muhammadi Nur was born: 1965 in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif of the province of Balkh Afghanistan. Ethnic Tajik . Nickname: (Teacher) (King of the North). Until 1979, he worked as a high school teacher, after the Soviet-Afghan conflict began , taught the Mojahedin, then became a member and field commander of the resistance of the party Jamiat Islami .

By 1992, it was considered the most influential field commander in the North of Afghanistan. In the same year, he joined the National Islamic Movement Rashid Dostum as deputy leader, but left the movement the following year.

In late 1996, he served as field commander in the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance, Ahmad Shah Massoud, in the province of Balkh.

Governor of the province of Balkh since 2002. According to the rating, The Economist is considered one of the richest people in Afghanistan.

In the province of Balkh, he created a disciplined administration from among the commanders with whom he fought in the 1980s and 1990s;
