Sherlock at death

The detective suffers from drug addiction and continues to stay away from John Watson. And he still grieves over his murdered wife and blames his friend for her death. Suddenly, the daughter of tycoon Calverton Smith comes to Baker Street, who claims that her father confessed to the murder, but she does not know who the victim was, because he used a drug against her that could affect memory. Using his deductive method, Sherlock concludes that Calverton is a serial killer, and sets out to expose and stop him. However, he is still dominated by drugs and unable to clearly distinguish his own thoughts from reality, so through Mrs. Hudson sends John a request to help him capture and expose this criminal.

During a visit to the tycoon’s possessions, Sherlock suddenly attacks Smith, and Watson is forced to disarm him. Detective's health is deteriorating, and he is hospitalized in the best ward of the clinic, owned by Calverton. During treatment, Holmes's condition becomes even worse; comrade and Mrs. Hudson come to say goodbye to him. John leaves his cane in the room as a sign that he no longer needs it. Smith appears in Sherlock’s ward, confesses to him, and then tries to kill.

John, constantly observing his wife’s visions, is watching a video message in which Mary asked Sherlock to be in a dangerous situation so that her husband could pull him out and thereby heal their relationship. After seeing the message, Watson runs to save Sherlock. He bursts in just in time to save a friend who shows that his behavior up to this point was an elaborate ploy to expose Smith. He is detained, and he repents when he learns that Holmes recorded his confession on a voice recorder hidden in a cane.

Later, John goes to his psychotherapist, who reveals that she is actually Holmes’s sister, Evr, and disguised herself to manipulate both Sherlock, portraying Smith's daughter, and him, Watson, playing the woman with whom he “cheated” Mary. She points the gun at the man and pulls the trigger.

The title of the series and plot elements refer to the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle " Sherlock Holmes at Death ." In the original title, as in other episodes of the series, there is a pun: English. The L ying Detective (i.e. lying or lying detective ) instead of English. Dying in the title of the reference story.

For the first time, the episode aired on BBC One and PBS on January 8, 2017. The Russian premiere took place on Channel One simultaneously with BBC One .
