History

Stepan Razin , the leader of the largest peasant-Cossack uprising in the middle of the XVII century, was born and raised on the Don. And it was from here that he moved with people loyal to him against the king. On the Don there are many memorable places associated with the legendary Don Ataman . In the village of Starocherkasskaya preserved the house in which Stepan Razin was born. For several years, historians and archaeologists have sought and excavated the Kagalnitsky Cossack town, which housed the ataman with his army. The Novocherkassk Museum exhibits the sculptural figure of S. Razin by E. V. Vuchetich. This image of the famous chieftain for a long time created around him many legends, to which many cultural figures turned. One of them was the national artist of the USSR S. T. Konenkov (who did not live to see the installation of the monument, but created his wooden model [2] ) and the architect L. M. Loban, who set about designing the project of the monument dedicated to the ataman. All sculptures were made of concrete at a local plant. June 5, 1972 on the embankment of Rostov-on-Don, not far from the nautical school named. Sedov, was erected a monument to Stepan Razin and his loyal squad [3] .

Appearance

The monument is a composition of seven sculptures, which include the figures of Stepan Razin and the Persian princess, as well as five loyal combatants who stand on a boat [3] [4] .
