Infantry platoon - the main combined-arms tactical unit in the infantry , designed to perform tactical tasks as part of the combined arms formation ( company , battalion , regiment , infantry brigade , infantry division ) of the Ground Forces in various conditions.
The organizational structure of the infantry battalions has changed over time. Nowadays, infantry units are often called mechanized units ( motorized rifle , motorized infantry ), since infantry is delivered to the battlefield using special vehicles.

APU mechanized platoon
The mechanized platoon is an integral element of the combined arms division of the mechanized forces of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine . It is designed to perform tasks both independently and in collaboration with units of the military branches.
Tasks of a mechanized infantry platoon
in a defensive battle - the steady retention of occupied areas, lines and positions, repulsing an adversary’s advance and defeating his advancing units, destroying a wedged enemy.
in an offensive battle - the capture of important areas of the terrain, the destruction of the enemy, which is defending, lines and objects, the crossing of water obstacles and the pursuit of the enemy, retreating.
A mechanized platoon during the execution of a mission acts, as a rule, as part of a company. A mechanized platoon may operate in reconnaissance, in an assault group, ambush, combat guard, while traveling in a field guard, and when located on the spot - in a guard guard. A mechanized platoon, in addition, can act as part of a tactical air (sea) landing.
In reconnaissance, combat, march, and sentry guards, a mechanized platoon can operate independently.
For greater independence during the performance of tasks, mechanized and tank units can be strengthened (supported) by units of other military branches.
These units are subordinate to the platoon commander and carry out the tasks assigned to him.
Armed Forces mechanized platoon
The platoon consists of control and three departments . In total in the platoon - 31 people. In service: AK , SVD , PM , PK, RPG , BMP-2 or BTR, etc.
The platoon administration includes: platoon commander, deputy platoon commander, sniper, nurse shooter.
In each mechanized compartment are: commander, deputy commander (aka gunner-operator), senior shooter, shooter, machine gunner, assistant machine gunner, grenade launcher, assistant grenade launcher, driver mechanic.
US Army Motorized Infantry Platoon
Motorized infantry platoon - a unit consisting of a control section (5 people) and three departments of 10 people each and is part of a motorized infantry company. Total in the platoon: 35 people, BMP M2 Bradley - 4 pcs., 7.62 mm M60 machine guns - 4 pcs., 5.56 mm M16A1 rifles - 29 pcs., Radio stations - 8 pcs., 5, 56 mm machine guns - 6 pcs., ATGM " Dragon "- 3 pcs.
The control section includes: platoon commander, deputy platoon commander (sergeant), radio telephone operator, gunner-operator BMP, driver mechanic. The motorized infantry squad consists of: the squad leader, deputy squad leader, gunner, driver, ATGM Dragon operator, machine gunner, two machine gunners, grenade launchers, and a radio telephone operator.
