Biography
Occurred from the nobility of Tiflis province. Yuri Borisovich Sofiev , officer of the Russian Imperial Army, the poet writes: "Sophia - more precisely Safavids - the Shah dynasty of Persia (1502-1736), founded by the descendant of Shiite imams Ismail I Safavius (1499-1525).
It was from here that Uncle Basya (the younger brother of his father, Abbas-kuli-bek Sofiev), and led our pedigree of the Becks Sofievs. I don’t know what kind of documentation he had, and, I remember, he said, in some archival documents it was said that his grandfather, his father, Iskander-bek Sofiev, Alexander Platonovich, a retired cavalry colonel or major general, "Descended from Tiflis bekstva". What does this mean - I have absolutely no idea. According to the father’s stories, the grandfather as a little boy was allegedly taken out of the Caucasus by Loris-Melikov and sent to the Shlyakheti, 1st St. Petersburg Cadet Corps, then, probably, he was in the “school of guards sub-ensigns and cavalry cadets” (Nikolaev Cavalry Military School) and left to the cavalry regiment, in which, I don’t know, but apparently for a long time he served in the Yamburg Ulansky " [1] .
Service: in the Volga cavalry regiment of the Terek Cossack Army (on 1.12.1879-1.02.1880), was assigned to the army cavalry (until 1.11.1881-after 1.03.1882).
