Nicolas Lefebvre (1615–1669) - French chemist and alchemist , author of the Chemistry Course ( French: Traité de la chymie , 1660). Born in Sedan. He first substantiated the idea of the scientific nature of chemistry, dividing it at the philosophical and pharmacological ( iatrochemical ) level. He saw the task of philosophical (theoretical) chemistry in the study of the transformation of substances ("transmutation of elements"). After 1660 he emigrated to England, where he became a member of the Royal Society of London . Lefebvre developed the first method for the industrial production of sulfuric acid [3] . Also in his writings contains a detailed description of the production of nicotine .
