German telephone numbering plan - ranges of telephone numbers allocated to various users of the public telephone network in Germany , special numbers and other dialing features for making telephone calls . All international numbers of users of this telephone network have a common beginning +49 - also called the prefix or telephone code of the country.
International code: +49
Prefix for making international calls: 00
Prefix for internal calls: 0
Regulation of the German Telephone Numbering Plan is the responsibility of the German Federal Communications Agency .
General Information
Germany has adopted an open telephone numbering plan . It is worth noting that in this country there is no fixed length of the subscriber's phone number, which means that some subscriber numbers can be up to 2 digits long. As a result, the telephone number is basically of various lengths, except for some non-geographic codes for which a fixed length of the telephone number has been adopted. This feature allows you to expand the range of rooms, without changing the existing numbers.
In the German telephone numbering plan, there are 5,200 geographical codes, the length of which varies from 2 to 5 digits (not counting the prefix 0). Geographic codes are in the range from 02 to 09, while non-geographic codes are in the range 01. Special services are given codes starting with 11. Access to them is carried out without the prefix 0. [1]
Geographic Code Numbering Plan
Geographic codes come in two to five digits in length. The maximum total length of a telephone number is 11 digits. Subscriber numbers cannot begin with 0 and 11.
- (0xx) xxxx-xxxx
- This format is used in the four largest cities in Germany: Berlin (030), Hamburg (040), Frankfurt (069) and Munich (089).
- The maximum number of digits of a subscriber number is 8
- (0xxx) xxxx-xxxx
- This format also provides a maximum length of up to 8 digits.
- (0xxxx) xxx-xxxx
- Maximum length of a subscriber number - 7
- (03xxxx) xx-96xxxx
- Some small territories in the former East Germany use five-digit codes, all of which begin with a triple. The maximum number of digits of a subscriber number is 6.
Numbering Plan in Non-Geographic Codes
Initially, all non-geographic numbers had the prefix 01. Currently, some of them use other codes.

The last number in this code expired in 2011, since then the range 012 has been moved to the reserve.
