Ransley Tom

Thomas Matthew Ransley ( born , ) is a British rower who has been playing for the UK national rowing team since 2007. Champion of the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, bronze medalist of the Olympics in London, two-time world champion, European champion, winner and medalist of the World Cup, winner of many regattas of national and international importance.

Biography

Tom Ransley was born on September 6, 1985 in Ashford , Kent . He studied at the independent school The King's School, later he graduated from York University and Hughes Hall College, Cambridge University . He began to actively engage in rowing since childhood, was a member of university rowing teams, and has repeatedly performed at various student competitions.

He first made his name in 2007, playing in the eights at the Glasgow Youth World Championships and taking sixth place there. Later he entered the main squad of the British national team and visited the adult European Championship in Poznan, Poland, where he was fifth in the final. A year later, he made his debut at the World Cup, in swinging fours without a helm, he made the European Championship in Athens, but did not reach the main final here. A year later, in eights, he won two bronze medals at the stages of the World Cup in Munich and Lucerne, took fifth place at the World Championships in Poznan.

In 2010, Ransley went to the world championship in New Zealand Karapiro, from where he brought the silver dignity award won in the standings of the steering eights. The following season, in the same discipline, he repeated this achievement at the World Championship in Slovenian Bled. Being among the leaders of the UK rowing team, the selection for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London was successfully completed - together with rowers such as Richard Eginton , Konstantin Louloudes , Matt Langridge , Alex Partridge , Mohamed Sbeehee , Gregory Searle , James Foad and helmsman Philan Hill finished second in the qualifying race, but through the comforting race still made his way to the final stage. In the final, the British took third place, losing to the teams of Germany and Canada, were forced to be content with bronze Olympic awards.

After the London Olympics, Ransley remained in the main team of the British national team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 2013, he performed at the World Championships in Korean Chunju and won the eights. A year later, in the same discipline, he was the best in the world championship in Amsterdam. In the season of 2015, he successfully performed in four-wheelless quadruples, in particular, he received gold at the European Championships in Poznan and bronze at the World Championships in Egboleth. Later he added to the track record a bronze award won in eights at the continent championship in German Brandenburg.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, Tom Ransley won the right to defend the honor of the country at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games , where he started as a crew member, which also included rowers Scott Durant , Andrew Triggs Hodge , Matt Gotrel , Pete Reed , Paul Bennett , Matt Langridge, William Satch and Steering Philan Hill. They qualified from the first place at the preliminary stage and thereby immediately got into the final stage of the competition. In the final decisive race, the British also finished first and thus won Olympic gold medals [1] .

For outstanding achievements in rowing at the end of the season he was awarded the Order of the British Empire [2] .
