Events

On January 20 (31) in the Senate, the emperor signed the definition of “about the Academy” ^[1]
January 22 ( February 2 ) Peter I approved the draft regulations on the Academy of Sciences , the university and the gymnasium attached to it ^[1]
January 27 ( February 7 ) the Sestroretsk arms factory began to work
In January 1724, A.D. Menshikov was removed from office as president of the Military College for significant abuse. A.I. Repnin was appointed in his place.

On February 8 (19), Peter I issued a decree on the establishment in St. Petersburg of the Academy of Sciences and the Academic Gymnasium (now the University ) ^[2]
Based on this date, on June 7, 1999, by decree of the President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin , the Day of Russian Science was established on February 8 ^[3] .

On March 14, Friedrich-Wilhelm I approved Gumbinnen (modern Gusev ) as the seat of the formed "Lithuanian deputation" - the governing body of the "Lithuanian", eastern half of East Prussia . From this moment until 1945 the government of the easternmost district of the state was here

On May 27 (7), the coronation of Catherine I took place.
