Orville was born in Chatagay , New York . According to the 1900 Federal Census (1900 US Federal Census), he was born in May, and his obituary, published in The Malone Farmer on August 21, 1918 , claims that he died on August 19 and that his funeral took place on August 21 at his brother’s house OM Gibson ..
Gibson began work in 1894 at his home workshop in Kalamazoo , Michigan . He created a completely new style of mandolin and guitar, which he subsequently patented. According to music historian Paul Sparks, his mandolins were "unlike any previous flat-surface instrument." His company's production standards were very high, and his tools were actively sold. He and his company used music teachers to market instruments and strong print ads to replace round mandolins. They succeeded in the mandolin market by eliminating the manufacture of round tools in America. [1] In 1902, five entrepreneurs from Kalamazoo , guided by Gibson's ideas, founded Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co., Ltd.
Between 1907 and 1911, Gibson was hospitalized several times. In 1916, he was hospitalized and died on August 19, 1918 , at the age of 62, in St. Lawrence State Hospital in Ogdensburg . The cause of death is endocarditis .
