Biography
Born in a wealthy family from Perugia. The son of an architect who studied under Antonio da Sangallo (senior) . Probably studied at the University of Perugia . [4] In March 1555 he entered the Dominican Order, with a haircut he changed his name from Pellegrino to Ignatius (Ignazio). For some time, after joining the order, he studied philosophy and theology to preach, but soon devotedly devoted himself to mathematics, astronomy, and geography.
In 1562 he went to Florence. He taught mathematics and science.
In September 1563 he was invited by the Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo I, to take part in a project on scientific cartography. In the next few years, he created more than 30 maps. In 1574, Danti discovered an 11-day difference between the Julian calendar and the astronomical year .
After the death of Duke Cosimo I, Danti was forced to leave Florence and in 1575 became a professor of mathematics at the University of Bologna , and later, in 1583 - bishop in Alatri . In Bologna, in the Basilica of San Petronio, he built a gnomon .
At the invitation of Pope Gregory XIII, from 1580, he participated in changing the Gregorian calendar and compiling geographical maps of the ancient and new worlds. Published a translation of part of Euclid with annotations
In one of his writings ("Trattato del'uso e della fabbrica dell'astrolabo con la giunta del planifero del Raja", 1569) speaks of a decrease in the inclination of the ecliptic . In Florence and in Bologna, he determined the direction of the meridian . The author of the work "Le Scienze matematiche ridotte in tavole" and others.
