Appointed by the inspector of the Second Gymnasium (former inspector of the Larin Gymnasium), Vasily Vasilievich Grigoriev, on his instructions, found for her the house of the merchant of the 1st Guild of Ivanov on 5th Rozhdestvenskaya Street (No. 12) - this was the first address of the 7th St. Petersburg Gymnasium.
Immediately after the opening of the gymnasium, they began to look for a more extensive room for it and as a result, it was decided to build its own building. At the beginning of 1883 a plot of land was purchased; in 1884, the district architect Andrei Nikolaevich Iossa developed the project; On May 19, 1885, a ceremonial laying of the building took place on Kirillovskaya Street (11) . In 1897, director N.K. Nevzorov , who was appointed to the gymnasium, turned to philanthropists for help on building a house church; The desire to build it at one’s own expense in May 1897 was expressed by the rector of the St. Andrew’s Athos monastery in St. Petersburg, Archimandrite David and the monk of the same monastery, I. M. Sibiryakov . The assembly hall of the gymnasium located on the 3rd floor of the main building was adapted for the Nikolskaya Church; the consecration of the church took place on December 4, 1897.
