Biography
Born September 11, 1879 in Drohobych. The descendant of the Cossacks of the Dnieper, who moved to Western Ukraine - hence the name Kossak (i.e., Cossack). Brothers Gregory and Vasily . Graduated from Lviv University , Faculty of Education. He taught at the teacher’s seminary in Chortkovo , headed the local branch of the Sokol movement . The head of the cooperative "Rural landlord", director of the credit society "People's House", the organizer of the local branch of " Plast ".
On September 2, 1914, he went to the front of the First World War as part of the OSS legion , was sent to the third half-root of Stepan Shukhevych , on September 9 he was appointed centurion instead of Theodor Rozhankovsky . October 18, Shukhevych with his half-smoke went to Borislav , Drohobych and Naguevich . On October 20, a hundred Kossak entered Drohobych, having fought at Selce against the Russian troops. During the battles of the OSS for Stryi, a hundred Kossak held the defenses near Sinevodsk, partially slowing down the pace of the advance of the Russian troops. The Austrians, having lost a large number of dead and wounded, retreated. On November 25, 1914, after the fighting near Tukholka for several days, the offensive of the Russian imperial army stopped. On December 1, 1914, Kossak noted the high morale of the archers in his letter to a member of the Ukrainian Military Command Ivan Bobersky .
From 1917 to 1918, Kossak was an adjutant with the Serozhupannaya division . During the Polish-Ukrainian war, he fought on the side of the Ukrainian Galician army in the Ternopil region. Since mid-1919 he was a military attache of the UPR in Rome. After the collapse of the UPR and the end of the civil war, he moved to the Ukrainian SSR in 1925, where he got a job in banking cooperation. The author of memoirs about Ivan Franko [1] .
Suddenly died on January 15, 1927 in Kiev in the apartment of Mikhail Grushevsky .
