Biography
He studied at the piano class of the Jazep Medyn School of Music , then graduated from the choir class of the Emil Darzin School of Music (1982) and the Latvian Conservatory in the class of choral conducting (1987), a student of Imant Kokars . Winner of the competition of young conductors named after Dmitry Shostakovich (Leningrad, 1985).
In his student years, he conducted several amateur groups in Riga, Jurmala and Jumevra , in 1988-1992. headed the female choir of the Latvian University of Mignon, simultaneously in 1990-1992. chief conductor of the teacher choir of the Cēsis district of Latvia. In 1987, began to collaborate as a conductor with the Latvian Radio Choir , since 1992 its artistic director and chief conductor. The main conductor of the XX — XXIV Latvian Song Holidays .
He made dozens of recordings, including the works of Sergei Rachmaninov , Peteris Vasks , Bernat Vivancos . He was engaged in collecting choral folklore of the Kurzeme region.
He teaches at the Latvian Academy of Music and the Choral School at the Dome Cathedral in Riga.
Laureate of the Grand Musical Award of Latvia (1999) and the Prize of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia (2000).
