History
Known until 1186 as De Forge, the city received the first part of its name, Forges, because it was an important center of iron ore mining since Roman times. The second part appeared from the 16th century thanks to the therapeutic use of local thermal waters.
In the XIV century, Blanca of Navarre , the widow of the King of France Philip VI , came here to the waters. But this place has really become fashionable since 1632, when King Louis XIII , his wife Anna of Austria and Cardinal Richelieu visited Forge. Thanks to the king's visit to Forge, gardens and parks, numerous water sources, including the three lakes that still exist, were laid out. Subsequently, many famous Frenchmen visited the waters of Forge.
From 1797 to the end of the 19th century, a large ceramic factory was operating in the city.
In 1872, a casino was opened in Forge-lez-O с, which burned down in 1896 and was restored in 1902. Now it is among the first fifteen casinos in France and is the closest to Paris after Angen-les-Bains .
