GEO (computer)

GEO-1
GEO-2

GEO is a family of small specialized computers for engineering computing (mainly geodetic), manufactured in Poland . The assembly was carried out at the Department of Designing Mathematical Machines of the Warsaw University of Technology with the assistance of the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography [1] [2] . The universal computers XYZ and UMC-1 , used in geodesy for the state triangular computer network since 1960, were the only ones involved in geodesy. Simple specialized computers at that time were not enough. In total, 28 serial computers and one prototype were produced from 1967 to 1986.

Distinctive features

  • Easy operation and maintenance
  • High reliability and resistance to operating conditions (at least several weeks of trouble-free operation)
  • Presence of programs in read-only memory
  • Low cost of procurement and operation in industrial enterprises
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Using from 20 to 30 programs for surveying tasks
  • The design uses the experience of past years in the construction of other computers
