It was written by Roy C. Bennett and Sid Terper and was recorded by Elvis for the film “ Happy Girl ” of the MGM film company [1] (released in theaters on April 14, 1965) [4] [5] .
Presley recorded his vocals for "Puppet on a String" and several other songs (over the previously recorded musicians minus) during a recording session at the Radio Recorders in Culver City studio on June 16, 1964 [1] .
The song was released in the US as a single with “ Wooden Heart ” on the back [6] . Puppet on a String reached a maximum of 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of Saturday April 12, 1965 [2] [4] . (Another single from the same movie, “ Do the Clam ”, came out earlier and reached 21 places.) [4]
