The river originates in Turkey, flows from north to south past Harran and flows into the Euphrates east of the city of Raqqa .
Historical Information
On the banks of this river in the Neolithic era was located one of the oldest proto-cities of Ubeid culture [2] . In the upper reaches of the river (known to Plutarch as Ballis ) in the 1st century BC e. the Battle of Carras occurred, as a result of which the Roman legions of Crassus suffered a crushing defeat from the Parthians.
