Content
History
Thomas Dybdahl Ahle in 2006 [7] began developing the PyChess program. The first version of the program was released in the fall of that year, but it contained a minimum of opportunities to play a game of chess, but the chess engine from GNU Chess was already installed.
At the end of 2006, the PyChess project was close to becoming a part of GNOME Games , which were looking for their missing programs [8] . But in the end, the more common glChess [8] [9] were added to the GNOME Games. GNOME chess is still being actively developed and is part of the GNOME project. Then there were negotiations between the developers of two chess programs, as a result of which they came to the conclusion that each application covers its own circle of players. In particular, PyChess is designed for more powerful chess players [10] .
In 2009, PyChess was awarded the gold medal at the Prize in Paris [11] .
In 2011, the program was among the seven most frequently used applications for accessing a [12] .
Starting from version 0.12, PyChess uses PyGObject and GTK + 3; previous versions used the obsolete PyGTK [13] .
Logo
The current PyChess logo was coined by Karol Kreński in 2007 [14] .
