Biography
Ludwig Philip came from the large Engelbrecht family. His father Daniel Christian Engelbrecht (1722-1790) was an obermtmann (head of the district) Levitsa .
Ludwig Philipp graduated from the school in Stettin and in 1774 volunteered for the Prussian Army Corps of Engineers, in which his uncle served.
He took part in fortification works in Kohlberg , and in 1777 in Grabovo and Graudenz . In 1778, during the War of the Bavarian Succession, he acted as quartermaster of Prince Heinrich of Prussia . In 1783, Engelbrecht received the rank of lieutenant , and in 1788 he entered the Royal Academy of Engineering in Potsdam .
During the First Coalition War, he was in the Rhine Army and participated in the siege of Longvi , Verdun , Mainz , Landau .
On July 29, 1793, he received Pour le Mérite [1] for his services during the siege of Mainz.
In 1796 he was in the Demarcation Army in Westphalia . Then he served as a military engineer in Graudenets and on February 29, 1805 he was promoted to majors .
After the defeat of Prussia and the conclusion of the Peace of Tilsit on July 9, 1807, Engelbrecht resigned for half of the wage set at 400 talers . But already in 1808 he was appointed foreman of the fortresses in Prussia.
During the War of Independence from March 28 to April 4 he participated in the siege of Thorne and received the Iron Cross of the 2nd degree.
On June 14, 1813, he was awarded the Order of St. George of the 4th degree (No. 2586 according to the cavalier list of Grigorovich - Stepanov) for differences in battles with the French.
In 1814 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , and the following year to colonel.
Later he continued to serve as a foreman of the Koenigsberg fortresses.
Family
In 1800, in Rese, he married Baroness Wilhelmina Louise Charlotte Alexandrina von Plettenberg (1769-1807) [2] .
In marriage had three children:
- Wilhelm Julius Albert Theodor Dietrich (1802–1862), Prussian officer, lieutenant colonel of the Engineering Corps
- Selma Carolina Louise Augusta (b. 1804)
- Eugen Ludwig Eldor Robert (1806–1896), Prussian officer, major of the 17th Landver Regiment, his wife Louise Miller (1811–1951) [3] .
