Biography
Born on October 26, 1964 in the city of Nikopol, Dnepropetrovsk Region, Ukrainian SSR .
In 1985 he graduated from the faculty of military intelligence of the Kiev Combined Arms Command School . In the same year he was assigned to the Turkestan Military District , where he began officer service as commander of a reconnaissance platoon.
In 1986-1988, he served in Afghanistan as commander of a reconnaissance platoon and after the commander of the 2nd reconnaissance company of the 781st separate reconnaissance battalion of the 108th motorized infantry division [1] .
Further service was held in the posts of commander of a reconnaissance company and chief of intelligence of the regiment’s headquarters in the Far Eastern Military District .
After serving in the Far East, he was transferred to the Moscow Military District where he successively held the posts of battalion commander, chief of staff of the regiment, commander of the 752nd motorized rifle regiment and chief of staff of the 2nd Guards Taman motorized infantry division [2] .
In 1994 - graduated from the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze .
In 1999, being the commander of the 752nd motorized rifle regiment of the 3rd motorized rifle division, he participated in the Second Chechen War [3] .
In 2005 - graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation .
2005-2008 - commander of the machine gun and artillery division in the Far Eastern Military District .
2008-2010 - service as the head of the Combat Training Directorate of the Siberian Military District [4] .
March 1, 2011 was appointed to the position of Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Combat Training of the Ground Forces [5] .
On January 29, 2015, he was appointed deputy commander of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy [6] .
At the end of November 2016, Lieutenant General Petrov Yuri was appointed to the post of chief of staff of the Central Military District [7] .
In April 2017, Lieutenant General Petrov temporarily acted as commander of the Central Military District [8] .
