Story

Ao Neanderthal lives with his clan in a cave in the region of Northern Siberia. One day, he returns from a polar bear hunt, then he sees that all members of his clan, including the newborn daughter of Noah, are dead. In the cave, he was attacked by two Homo sapiens , who apparently killed members of his clan. Ao draws the attackers to flight and decides to return to the habitat of his native tribe in southern Europe, where his twin brother Oa lives, with whom they were separated in childhood when they were eleven years old. During his travels, he was captured by a group of Homo sapiens with painted faces. In captivity, along with him were two Cro-Magnon men - a man and a pregnant woman Aki. After the Cro-Magnon prisoner was killed, Ao succeeds in escaping, Aki escapes after him, and soon gives birth in the cave to the daughter Vamu, whom Ao perceived as the birth daughter of Nea [3] .

On the way south, Ao falls ill, but Aki cures him with herbs. Upon arrival in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, Ao finds only dead Oa. He remains the last Neanderthal on the planet. Four years later, Ao still lives with Aki, who is expecting a child from him [3] .

Historical Compliance

The hollow-bones flute, discovered by Ao on the chest of a deceased person (judging by the skull, Cro-Magnon) at the beginning of the film, seems to correlate with the so-called Neanderthal flute from Divje Baba 1 in Slovenia, found in 1995. However, after re-examining the “Neanderthal flute” turned out to be just a bone, bitten by a cave hyena, so nothing is currently known about the musical abilities of Neanderthals [4] .

According to the scenario, the film takes place 30 thousand years ago, because until the beginning of the 2010s, scientists believed that the Iberian Peninsula was a refugium during the Würm glaciation , a refuge where Neanderthals lived for several more millennia after the population in the rest of Europe neandeltsev extinct (eg in Gorham's cave on the rock of Gibraltar , or in the river Ebro , where on the border of the middle and upper Paleolithic there was a situation, called "border of the Ebro": on the north bank of the Ebro lived Cro-Magnons , and on the south baa EHU in dry conditions edaphic step - the last Neanderthals [5] ). However, according to the latest data of scientists, Neanderthals completely died out in Europe 39.26–41.03 thousand years ago [6] , and on the Iberian Peninsula Neanderthals died out not later than 43 thousand years ago [7] .
